Letters: More local news in The Daily Triplicate is appreciated

I wanted to take a minute and let you know how much I am enjoying the changes you have made in the Triplicate.

First of all, let me compliment you on the new look of the classified section. Listings are easier to read and distinguish from each other. I am sure many of our community members agree that it is a vast improvement over the old layout of this section.

Secondly, and perhaps most importantly to me, I appreciate your renewed commitment to covering LOCAL news. I don't much care what type of yoga they are practicing in New York (which was a Triplicate article run from the AP earlier this year). I care what LOCAL people and LOCAL organizations are doing here in Del Norte County. It seemed that for quite some time, with a few exceptions, the local people and organizations that keep our community a nice place to live were deemed andquot;un-newsworthyandquot; and ignored. I am glad to open my paper now and read how local service organizations like Soroptimist and Rotary are helping people, how groups like CASA of Del Norte are helping children, and how kids at our schools are excelling and reaching for their dreams. I know I will always be able to go to the Internet or cable news to hear how things are going andquot;out thereandquot; in the world. I appreciate, and encourage, more local news coverage in our local newspaper.

Keep up the good work.
