Letters: Sewer rate increase shouldbe conducted fairly

Doubling the sewer rate in three years would be exorbitant. Also, the primary burden for financing such improvements should be assigned to whoever would benefit mostthose obtaining new hookups as well as businesses related to construction. The procedure to evaluate support for and opposition to the proposal is unfair.

There should be an advisory election, not something comparable to the Book of the Month Club (where you are assumed to favor a selection unless you oppose it). Finally, there appears to be a conflict of interest if an official advocate of the proposal (Jim Barnts, City Director of Public Works) will benefit from it because of his property development.
