Troop Support, military personnel to be represented in parade
Troop Support has gathered a wonderful group of patriotic and kind people to help put together the first float for our now 6-year-old organization. We are indebted to Commander Nolan Cuevas and his crew at the Coast Guard Station for offering to help us with the complexities of developing our float. The Dorado Crew members are great hosts.
Our Troop Support float will follow behind the cars carrying the WWII veterans who are the parade marshals. It consists of military personnel representing the six branches of the service, along with their flags, the Viet Now personnel and their flag as well as MIA flag.
Following the float will be some working members who support our troops by doing the care packages.
At the end of the parade there will be a roll call in memory of my late nephew, Capt. Bruno de Solenni, at H and Front streets, the same spot he used two years ago to honor his lieutenant killed while they were in Iraq. Bruno intended to have his unit participate in our parade annually. Members from the public who are veterans will be invited to stand with uniformed veterans, same as last time.
VFW Commander Jim McGill and Chaplin Stan Jones and Honor Guard will participate.
"Taps" will be played by veteran Scott Cook.
