All of us should support groups committed to helping others
In response to Mary Dorman's letter ("Earthquake was a wake-up call to us all," Jan. 12), it is wonderful that organizations and individuals come to the aid of those in need.
America has a proud history of being on the front line when people are in need. This makes me proud to be an American. Mary has demonstrated to me, personally, that she is committed to what she is professing. She walks the walk.
Recent events in Haiti should bring the horrid possibilities of natural disaster to our consciousness. We depend on each other whether we like it or not. We dodged a bullet locally but a community is dependent upon itself, especially in times of disaster, but even when we are working through "normal" challenges.
I encourage all of us to support the organizations of your choice that are committed to our fellow man/woman.
