One of my favorite pastimes as a former Warrior coach is to look back at past players position-by-position and try to pick my dream team.

When I look at the tight end position one name always pops up and that is Nick Baker.

Nick is a 1986 Del Norte graduate that had the size, speed and

excellent hands that made him an outstanding player at his position. I

can still see him making great catches on throws from quarterback Blaine

He was especially good in our hurry up offense as he always appeared

to know where the first down marker was and where the areas were in the

defensive secondary. Nick also played four years in the Warrior

basketball program.

After high school graduation Nick first went to Santa Rosa Junior

College where he completed his AA degree. He long had a real interest in

photography. This interest led him to Brooks Institute of photography

in Santa Barbara where he earned his BA.

After college graduation Nick returned to Crescent City and went to

work for The Triplicate. He really enjoyed being able to photograph

Warrior sports as well as other student activities. He worked in this

position for about four years. The urge to wander struck and Nick moved

to a photography job with a newspaper in Florida and said he really

enjoyed his time in Florida.

While there he won several honors on both the state and national

level for his photography work. He was present at a meeting in Florida

to photograph President George W. Bush when 9/11 occurred and was able

to photograph the president at the exact instant he was being informed

of this horrendous incident. It is something he will always remember.

After four years in Florida the urge to return to California got the

best of him. He returned and took a position with a newspaper in

Paradise where he worked until deciding to become a correctional

officer. He now works at the California State Prison, Sacramento, a job

he really enjoys.

Nick is still looking for that special girl that can get him to say

'I do.' For the right girl he will be a great catch as he is a real

quality young man, one I am proud to have worked with.
