CRDN Report: CR students join Sacramento march

Triplicate Staff

Editor's note: CRDN Report appears every four weeks.

Welcome to this month's edition of the CRDN Report. As promised last month I will be talking about the trip that some of CRDN's students took to Sacramento to attend the annual March In March rally.

It's been a month since the event and it has been covered but this will be a firsthand report from a student who actually attended the event. I will also be talking about a raffle that the ASB Club is holding right now and I will remind everyone of some of the wonderful events scheduled in April through our Community Education program.

The scene in Sacramento

Nine students from CRDN and two students from CR Eureka, along with our staff adviser, left March 4 to attend the rally the next day. The trip down gave those of us who didn't know each other a chance to become acquainted. All of us stayed at the Embassy Suites hotel overlooking Capitol Bridge in downtown Sacramento.

Since many students from the more than 100 California community

colleges were staying at the same hotel, it gave CRDN's students a

chance to meet and talk with fellow students from all over the state.

The rally itself took place on March 5 and CRDN students chose to

join the march about midway along the route. While we waited for the

rest of the marchers to reach us CRDN students held up signs and

encouraged support from drivers who were driving down Capitol Mall prior

to it being closed for the event.

Response was entirely favorable for the students during the march and during the actual rally on the west steps of the Capitol.

The only blight on the entire event was the appearance of some Bay

Area-based supporters of the "Occupy" movement. I will not give them

anymore of my time except to say this; the Occupy Movement has nothing

to do with the message that the March In March rally was trying to

promote and their appearance was not appreciated by the March In March

The CRDN students who attended the rally all had a good time and have expressed their interest in attending next year's event.

Jerseys to be raffled off

As mentioned last month, the Associated Student Body Club is

currently holding a raffle to generate revenue for student events and

activities. The raffle is for one of four NFL jerseys that were donated

to the club for this purpose.

They include Joe Montana and Bo Jackson throwback jerseys, a Greg

Jennings Super Bowl jersey and a Patrick Willis jersey. The tickets are

$2 each or 3 for $5 and can be purchased at the Club Cafandeacute; snack shop

located on the CRDN campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through

On Wednesday, we will have a table set up right inside the main

entrance of the college located at 883 W. Washington Blvd. Remember,

when you buy your tickets you choose right then which one(s) you would

like to try and win.

Events focus on babies, pioneers

The Community Education program hosts a combination of low-cost or

free workshops or events every month and April is no exception. We have

two free events this month and the first one is "Baby Signs," 6-8 p.m.

on Thursday, April 12. This free two-hour workshop helps you learn "the

many benefits of baby sign language."

Also this month is a unique presentation of "The Trail," about the

Lewis and Clark Expedition that helped open up the west to the European

settlers located on the east coast of the United States in the early

1800s. The presentation is by Churchill Clark, who is the fourth

great-grandson of William Clark. "The Trail" will be presented

Wednesday, April 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

These events are just some of the things going on this month at CRDN

and we hope the community will come out and participate in these

activities. Remember to check back here in a month for the next

installment of the CRDN Report, when one of the topics will be the

commencement ceremony taking place next month.
