Story on abused puppy overwhelmed reader
Thank you for the article on London the pit bull puppy ("Local pair jailed for dog abuse," Aug. 18), who was horribly abused.
I had seen this story on Facebook a couple days earlier and realized that I'd heard nothing about it. I was overwhelmed with tears and emotions. I went to London's page and donated toward the fund for him (surgeries, care).
Then I showed my daughters London and told them the story. We went to a couple stores here and in Brookings and put together a little care box for him with toys, balls, filled bones and a card of thanks to the amazing people like Amanda Giese at Panda Paws Rescue in Vancouver, Wash.
If you watch the video of London on the website, you can see that he now understands what every dog should know, unconditional love and forever happiness.
Search web to find plenty
of fluoridation warnings
This fluoride conundrum is really a "no brainer." No one needs to claim they are ignorant of the cause and effect of drinking fluoride. In this age of information, just use your favorite search engine and type in the subject "fluoride." You will find so much info on the subject, it will make your head spin.
Everyone should be interested in something we and our children drink and bathe in.
This I know:
1) It is a poison; so toxic it was illegal to dump into rivers and oceans. But wait, great idea, if we call it medicine and sell it we can make money on it and get rid of it.
2) It causes "fluorosis," it weakens your bones and teeth and causes joint pain and stiffness.
3) The most scary: It lowers your IQ.
Please get it out of our water.
Awareness key to preventingignorant ideas about rape
It is sad that one ignorant comment can hurt so many people so very deeply. Rape survivors everywhere are outraged, and rightfully so. I worked hard in this community to educate and dispel myths such as the one that Missouri Congressman Todd Aiken spread when he said women are somehow naturally capable of preventing pregnancies in cases of "legitimate rape."
I was sick to my stomach reading about it.
This is the exact reason I became involved in V-DAY, the worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls. The Soroptimist International has been working for years to raise awareness about human trafficking. The Clothesline Project educates the community about the violence women and children suffer right here where we live.
Awareness is the key to prevention. We have to care enough to make changes. It may be something as simple as not laughing at a joke that degrades women or makes light of abuse of women, or calling 911 when you hear someone being hurt.
We all have to start somewhere. Last year we raised $7,800 for agencies in our community that are working to prevent assault and abuse of women and children. "The Vagina Monologues" is only one of the events planned for 2013. I urge you to join One Billion Rising on Feb. 14, 2013.
I encourage every woman on this planet who has been raped or beaten or violated or cut or burned or exploited or muted or hurt and all the men and women who love them to walk out of their jobs, their offices, factories, homes, schools and say this is the day that violence against women and girls ends, this is the day wedance.
In honor of One Billion Rising we will have a place to dance. On Feb. 14, 2013, take your valentine out to dance. We hope to have several bands and a DJ or two playing throughout the day. The money raised from the dance will go toward ending violence against women and children.
Watch for more info on the Worldwide V-Day Movement and One Billion Rising. If we all work together we can end violence against women and children.
Glad to see DA Alexander make effort for Arbor Glen
I am a tenant at the Arbor Glen Trailer Park in Klamath. In the late afternoon on Monday, Aug. 20, District Attorney Jon Alexander stopped by.
Now I have read some pretty damning things about Mr. Alexander. However, I and all of the tenants I spoke to, were very glad to know that the county was getting involved in our ongoing tenant/landlord/water problems.
Alexander seemed a very serious man. He showed up complete with badge and sidearm. He told us he would be back soon. He also told us to expect our water service to return, or criminal charges would be filed.
