"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy."

- Thomas Jefferson

"Of all tyranny, the tyranny exercised for the good of the people is the most oppressive."

- C.S. Lewis

This is in response to Bret Raushenbush's Oct. 24 letter, "Lies mask GOP's selfish, extremist obstructionism." He describes the Republicans as having nothing to offer but to "the fanatics in their base."

Webster defines "fanatic" as "marked by intense uncritical devotion."I say this instead: There is no more curious political devotee than the one who lends cover to this man no matter the scandals, the lies and the suffering.

The biggest obstruction to prosperity lies at the feet of this president, who is confiscating and redistributing the sweat and toil of others.Because of a flood of new regulations and taxes, American business owners feel they are under siege by their own government.

The 40-hour work week, once the backbone of American prosperity, has collapsed as noted by the head of the Teamsters. As of this writing, 10 million more Americans are out of work than when Obama took office.

The Benghazi debacle showed our enemies the cowardly and mushy core of our resolve. While our enemies don't fear us, our allies no longer trust us asking why their phone conversations were confiscated, stating "Obama broke our trust!"

We have watched the Middle East, nation after nation, descend into the Arab Winter of Islamic fury coinciding with Obama's speech in Cairo. This president is responsible for the greatest foreign policy disaster in American history.

Raushenbush wrote, "(the Republicans) blame Democrats for the government shutdown that they caused." The Democrat position was all or nothing.Aged and infirm WWII vets were forbidden to visit their own memorial, built and maintained by private funds.Same goes for the Normandy cemetery in France.Furloughed military chaplains were not even allowed to "work for free." Yea, "Make 'em hurt!" and blame the opposition for shutting down the government.

The truth? The 14th Amendment of our Constitution states: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by lawandhellip;shall not be questioned."

Congress would not spurn constitutional law, but this president would direct his treasury secretary to refuse servicing the debt - unless he got his petulant way.

You see, House Republicans were willing to fund the government, but not Obamacare, for a year! They wanted the same waivers given to the American people that Obama gave to his favored corporations and union bosses. And if this doesn't really tick you off, think on this: The legislators who crafted the ACA are themselves exempted from its fees and penalties because the American taxpayer, by law, is now required to subsidize their health care - making it, for them, really "affordable."We've been scammed.

Raushenbush also wrote that Republicans don't "want Obama to have any accomplishments."Obama's signature achievementisObamacare! This has been the utopian dream of socialists for a hundred years andObama did it-without a single Republican vote. That old Marxist, Vladimir Lenin, stated, "Socialized medicine is the keystone to the arch of the Socialist state."

But Obama lied to us in selling Obamacare:

andbull; Lie No. 1: "If you like your insurance, you can keep it, period!"

andbull; Lie No. 2: "The average family will save 2,500 a year."The very idea that government can offer a better product at cheaper prices than private industry goes against everything the lessons of collectivism and government control of any industry has taught us.

Raushenbush "If they (Republicans) knew anything, any real facts, they would know that there were right-wing anti-socialists insurrections in the 20th century. One of them was Nazismandhellip;" The truth is that the Nazis were socialists.Look it up! The word "Nazis" is an acronym for "The National Socialist Workers Party." That's a "real fact."

Those who care about defending liberty against the confiscatory chains of socialism, who believe in the constitutional constraints on government power, are denounced as extremists, radicals, anarchists and racists.

Call me whatever name you like - I believe "Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice (Goldwater)."Perhaps, with so many feeling so betrayed by this president in his lies, and feeling real pain in their pocketbooks, there will be a renewed love of liberty over tyranny, principles over party, and truth over lies in this next election. God bless America!
