GOLD BEACH, Ore., The Del Norte High junior varsity baseball team continued its strong start on Thursday, downing the Gold Beach, Ore., varsity squad 8-5 on the road.

The win improves Del Norte to 3-0 for the year.

Sophomore Zack Hegelmeyer was lights out for the Warriors.

He pitched a complete game and struck out eight Gold Beach batters.

Valdez said the entire team played well and was able to band together to down the Gold Beach squad.

The Warriors opened with two wins against Fortuna on the road last weekend. They defeated the Huskies 16-1 and 7-3.

Today, weather permitting, the JV squad plays Fortuna again in its first home game at 4 p.m. at Peterson Park.

On Friday and Saturday, the squad will play at a tournament in Yreka, which the varsity squad is also taking part in.

After Yreka, the JV squad has two games on the road before coming back home to play Bandon, Ore., on March 22.
