ARCATA The Del Norte High girls varsity basketball team lost 46-31 to Arcata on the road Tuesday night.

Del Norte dropped to 8-11 overall and 0-2 in the Big 5 Conference, while Arcata improved to 15-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big 5.

Warrior head coach Buzz McCulloch commended his team for it effort and said the girls did a good job breaking the press of the Tigers.

The problem was Del Norte missed too many shots in the paint, he said

andquot;The girls played hard and played good team ball,andquot; McCulloch said. andquot;But we just couldn't score inside.andquot;

He added Arcata took advantage of many of their second shot chances and scored.

The Warriors were down only 12-9 after the first quarter, but Arcata started to pull away in the second quarter on the way to the win.

Lisa Daniels led Del Norte scorers with 10 points.

Michelle Stacey had seven points, Natasha Short had six and Robyn Suzuki finished with four points.

In the junior varsity game, Del Norte lost to Arcata 33-28.

The Warriors were up 18-9 at the half but could not keep up the momentum in the second half. The loss drops Del Norte to 8-7 for the year.

Katy Suzuki led Warrior scorers with nine points. Lexi Nelson had seven points, while Heather Thomas finished with six points.

In the freshman game, Del Norte won the contest.

The Warriors next play at home on Thursday against McKinleyville at 7:30 p.m.

The JV game starts at 6 p.m. and the freshman game is at 4:30 p.m.
