FERNDALE The Del Norte High boys' and girls' soccer teams both earned victories against Ferndale on the road on Wednesday.

In the boys' game, the Warriors dominated from the start on its way to the 9-1 win to improve to 7-5-1 for the season.

The girls team scored all three of its goals in the second-half on its way to the 3-0 win. The team is 6-9 for the year.

In the boys' game, head coach Gilberto Gil Rodriguez said he wanted to give his bench, especially the younger players, more game experience, so he put several in the starting lineup to begin the game.

They did not disappoint.

In the 15th minute, Jeffery Hough scored and less than five minutes later earned his second goal. Before the end of the half, Jonathan Olvera and Ian Jager both scored to give Del Norte a 4-1 lead into the half.

In the second half, using a combination of different players, the Warriors continued to roll, as they scored five more goals to earn the win.

In the second half, Kyler Davis had two goals, while Olvera scored his second goal of the game. Wade Williams, David Standring and Walter Reyes also scored.

In the girls' contest, both teams played competitively with each other in the first half, with the half ending in a 0-0 tie.

In the second half, Del Norte got on the scoreboard first, thanks to Brittni Scott in the 60th minute She also scored a second time. Sinead Aguilar also scored for the Warriors.

Head coach Clar Byers said he was proud with the way his team passed the ball and talked to each other on the field.

He commended goalie Michelle Stacey for playing a good game, preventing five shots on goal from going in.

On Saturday, the Warrior boys' and girls' teams will play at home against McKinleyville.
