After chalking up 54-0 and 39-6 victories on the road the past two weeks, the Del Norte High varsity football team returns home to Mike Whalen Field to take on the Arcata Tigers tonight.

With a 2-0 Big 5 Conference mark and a 4-0 record overall, the Warriors have been on a roll this season.

Del Norte has allowed only 18 points all year and rushed for a mind-boggling 506 yards and five touchdowns against Fortuna last week.

andquot;We played well last week, but it's a new week and it's always about how well you do this week,andquot; head coach Lewis Nova said. andquot;We need to remain focused going into the Arcata game and stay on track.andquot;

He added Arcata will be ready to play and will not just andquot;roll over.andquot;

andquot;They will do what they can to beat us at home,andquot; he said. andquot;It would be a big feather in their cap.andquot;

Last Saturday, Arcata, (2-2) lost to Little 4 Conference power Ferndale, 14-6.

Nova said he knows the Tigers will work hard to stop the run and will send in their linebackers, a group of andquot;big kids,andquot; to andquot;flow hard to the ball.andquot;

Nova said he has been quite pleased with the Warriors' running game this year.

A key component to the successful running game is the players' willingness to make key blocks for fellow running backs.

andquot;They compliment each other,andquot; he said. andquot;They are willing to block when there not running. There's no selfishness. It makes us a big threat.andquot;

On defense, Nova said his team needs to continue to pressure the quarterback. He said the defense needs to rattle the opposing quarterback and not give him time to throw.

And in the running game, the defense needs to quickly close the holes to make sure the Tigers do not get consistent positive yards.

Against Fortuna, Del Norte held the Huskies to only 36 yards of rushing, and the Warriors have been able to keep the opponents' run game from picking up any momentum in all four games this season.

Nova said his team needs to keep on wrapping up and tackling their opponent on every play and not let Arcata gain any extra yards because they did not tackle correctly on the initial contact.

While the Warriors have been quite successful on the road this year, Nova said it's always nice to come back home.

andquot;The kids just love playing in front of the home crowd,andquot; he said.

The game begins at 7:30 p.m at Mike Whalen Field on the Del Norte High School campus.

The junior varsity game begins at 5 p.m.
