A memorable track meet culminated in nine White Stars for members of the Del Norte High track and field team at the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference White Star Championships in Fortuna on Friday.

The White Star track meet gives team members a chance to earn individual recognition, with only the first place finisher in each event receiving a White Star.

Kelsy Hintz and Bailee McCulloch earned three White Stars each, while Taylor Duncan and Rachel Cink garnered two.

Hintz earned her stars in the pole vault, 100-meter dash and as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team, which also included McCulloch, Jessica Slayton and Cink. McCulloch received first in the 400-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

Hintz jumped a personal best 12.6 feet in the pole vault, smashing the meet and league record.

andquot;She had a lot of confidence,andquot; head coach Scott Lindsay said. andquot;It was a good day for Kelsy.andquot; In the 100-meter, she ran a time of 12.6 seconds

The boys won the 4x400 meter relay, despite losing team member Michael Worch to the flu. Cody Hoffman, who stepped in, contributed to the win, along with fellow team members Duncan, Joseph Alexandre and Troy Wakefield.

andquot;The boys really stepped it up and pulled through,andquot; Lindsay said, adding that the race came down to the end, with Duncan able to outrace his closet competitor, who was from Arcata.

Duncan said the team had not beaten Arcata in the event this year, and it was nice to finally do it at White Stars.

andquot;It was really fun,andquot; he said. andquot;We've wanted to beat them all year. We all pulled together.andquot;
