Savages lose close contest to Warriors

Up 9-0 in the fourth quarter, the Siskiyou Savages semi-pro football team was unable to hold on, falling 12-11 to the Rogue Warriors in Medford Saturday evening. The loss dropped the Savages to 1-2 for the season. andquot; We let it get away from us,andquot; head coach Dick Trone said. In the fourth, an unusual play took place. After scoring to cut the lead to 11-6, the Warriors went for two. On the play, Dean Suban of the Savages was able to knock the ball out of the runners hands and scampered 95 yards for the score. Because the Warriors were going for two, the score only put two more points on the board for the Savages. On the Warriors next possession, the team's running back scored, but the Warriors were unable to score on a two-point conversion. The Savages got the ball back, but were unable to score before time ran out. The Savages play the Salem Monarchs at home on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Brookings.
