Warriors softball team loses in championship game

The Del Norte High softball team went 2-1 at the Northern Humboldt Softball Tournament in Arcata.

On Friday, the team defeated Anderson and took care of Hoopa 3-1 Saturday morning.

In the afternoon championship match, the Warriors faced Grants Pass, which had not lost a game this season.

In fact, they had not even given up a run.

That trend continued as the Lady Cavers dominated the Warriors 13-0, handing Del Norte its first loss of the season as the team fell to 9-1.

In the Hoopa game, pitcher McKinnze Holden had eight strikeouts. Gabby Navarro went 2-for-3 with a double, a single and a RBI.

Today's game at Gold Beach, Ore. has been canceled.

The Warriors next play at home on Saturday in a doubleheader against the Grants Pass junior varsity team, although head coach Jackie Heuberger is not expected to be in the dugout.

She is currently nine days overdue with her second child and had not given birth as of early Monday evening.
