Tonight is the last time the five senior members of the Del Norte High girls basketball team will put on the Warriors uniform.

While the season has not gone the way the squad would have liked, the seniors said the experience has been more than worthwhile.

andquot;It's fun,andquot; Kristie Gavin said. andquot;I love playing with everyone. I'm going to miss it.andquot;

The Warriors, which are winless in the Big 5 Conference and are 6-14 overall, play at Eureka tonight to end the season.

The girls say they have played together since junior high and have formed a close bond both off and on the court.

Alyssa Luna said it's a positive on the court because they have a good understanding of what the other is going to do on the basketball court.

Although, she admits that familiarity can mean they andquot;can get afterandquot; one another on the basketball court, because they are so comfortable with one another.

All five seniors say this has been one of their favorite years playing basketball, and that the chemistry between teammates has been good, but they all agree they would have liked to have won more games.

andquot;We're really competitive,andquot; Luna said. andquot;It just didn't work out for us.andquot;

Fellow seniors Ronni Scott and Heather Gill agreed and said while it would had been nice to pull off a few more victories that ended up in losses, they enjoyed their experience this year, and said they like that that they all andquot;play wellandquot; together.

The senior girls were honored before the Warriors last home game on Tuesday against Arcata.

Luna said she likes the excitement of playing basketball and not knowing what's going to happen during the course of a game or practice and that one needs to adjust - from an opponent playing a different type of defense to dealing with an unexpected injury to a teammate.

andquot;There's something unpredictable everyday,andquot; she said.

When she's playing, Luna said she likes the fact that on this team, it's not about playing for yourself, but playing as a whole unit.

It would be wonderful to end on a win tonight against Eureka, the seniors said and added that's what they are striving for.

andquot;We can pull off the upset,andquot; Gavin said. andquot;We just have to play hard.andquot;

Tonight's game at Eureka is set for 7:30 p.m. The freshman and junior varsity girls also are playing its last games of the season tonight.
