Del Norte High has company in the Big 5 Conference standings.
The Warriors lost 58-49 to Eureka Wednesday evening to fall into a 2-1 tie with the Loggers.
After winning two conference games in a row at home, Del Norte (13-7) came out sluggish on the road and could not seem to get its game on track.
andquot;We didn't play very well,andquot; head coach Blaine Lopez said. andquot;We got out-rebounded. We gave them too many second shots. That was as bad as we have played in a long time.andquot;
Eureka quickly jumped to a 7-2 lead, including a three-point play.
The Warriors responded, with Scott Redmond able to make a basket and get the foul. Although he missed the free throw, Bryce Lund was able to grab the rebound and drain the two to reduce the lead to 7-6.
Two 3-pointers by Eureka helped the Loggers take a 13-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second, Saxon Schultz was able to gain the basket and the foul and made the free throw to reduce the lead to 13-9.
With about three minutes left in the half, Sean Brock scored to reduce the defict to 15-11.
A 3-pointer by Del Norte slashed the lead to one point.
But Eureka would not give up the lead so easily and were able to increase the lead to 18-14, with a little less than two minutes left in the quarter.
But a 3-pointer by Chad Freeman cut the lead to 18-17.
Eureka kept its composure and went on a mini run and took a 24-17 advantage into the half.
In the third, things started out well for the Warriors, with Redmond making a two to reduce the lead to 24-19.
But Jacob Bingham made a three as Eureka took a 27-19 lead. The Loggers continued with their sharp 3-point shooting, with Travis Tollner gunning a three, as the Loggers led by 10.
The rest of the quarter, the Warriors made a few good shots and 3-pointers. Eureka was able to answer right back, with a barrage of points as the Loggers had a 40-27 lead at the end of the third.
In the fourth, the Warriors outscored Eureka 22-18, but every time Del Norte looked like it was back in the game, Eureka would shut the door on the Warriors and make a key basket, rebound or turnover to keep the game out of reach.
Cliff VanHook led Warrior scorers with 11. Schultz had nine points, while Lund contributed eight points. Greg Allen and Scott Nilsen led Logger scorers with 15 points each.
The junior varsity team was part of an exciting game, winning 67-65 in double overtime versus Eureka.
Del Norte was able to drain a two-pointer with about 10 seconds left to seal the win. Del Norte won 61-51 in the freshman game.
