While the Del Norte High girls basketball team lost 43-23 Thursday night to Enterprise at a tournament in Redding, Head Coach Buzz McCulloch found positives from the loss.

He was pleased his team was able to contain the Hornets leading scorer, Hillary Hurley, to only six points. She scored 35 points last week versus Chico High.

andquot;We played very aggressive defense,andquot; McCulloch said.

The Warriors (4-7) played tough, suffocating defense throughout the contest. The problem was the team could not score any points, McCulloch said.

andquot;We couldn't buy a bucket,andquot; he said. andquot;We missed quite a few shots we should had made.andquot;

Because of the lack of shots going in, Del Norte was already down 15-4 at the end of the first quarter.

In the game, Del Norte easily missed 20 to 25 shots it should had made, McCulloch said. Also, the Warriors went 3-for-16 from the free throw line.

andquot;That just killed us,andquot; he said.

Wednesday night, Del Norte lost in an away game to Hoopa 48-42.

McCulloch said while the score did not show it, his team played better compared to the Hoopa game.

andquot;The girls played a good, tough ball game,andquot; he said.

McCulloch is hopeful his squad will come out sharp tonight in its match versus University Prep of Redding at 5:30 p.m.

Del Norte will play it's final game of the Enterprise Tournament on Saturday.

With such a young team, McCulloch is hopeful his girls can come together and play well, especially with Big 5 Conference play coming up soon.

Bailee McCulloch led Warrior scorers with six points. Michelle Stacey and Alyssa Luna each had four points.
