It was not the week Del Norte High School girls basketball coach Buzz McCulloch had hope for.

The Warriors dropped all three games at the Yvonne Rocha Tournament in Fortuna to fall to 2-4 for the year.

On Saturday, Del Norte was defeated by Middletown High 37-36. On Friday, they lost 48-28 to Arcata High and 60-30 to Anderson High on Thursday.

The Saturday game started with promise, as the Warriors took a 11-10 lead in the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter, Del Norte was able to extend its lead to 19-16.

Taking a 27-24 lead into the fourth quarter, the Warriors were unable to hold on and lost the game.

A key reason for the loss was turnovers and poor free throw shooting, McCulloch said.

The team committed 20 turnovers and shot 9-for 22 from the line.

andquot;We need to work on this during our next three practices,andquot; he said. andquot;We're just not getting it done during the games.andquot;

While the defense played better, McCulloch said his team needs to do andquot;a lot better jobandquot; boxing out.

Alyssa Luna led Warrior scorers with 12 points. Lauyrn Lesina contributed eight points and Michelle Stacey had five points.

McCulloch is hopeful his girls will start to gel as a squad and improve. If not, it could be a long season, he said.

andquot;We're working through some bumps and bruises right now,andquot; he said.

The Warriors next play Etna High in a tournament in Mt. Shasta on Thursday.
