The Del Norte High wrestling team racked up a pair of victories in dual meet action Wednesday night at Fortuna High School.

The Warriors defeated St. Bernard's Catholic High of Eureka, 55-0, winning all three contested matches.

Del Norte followed that up with a 59-30 victory over the Huskies, going 9-2 in the 11 contested matches.

"We wrestled very well tonight," Warriors assistant coach Clinton Schaad said. "It was a big improvement from our dual meet (at Arcata) last week.

Three Del Norte wrestlers accrued two wins in contested matches Wednesday: Juniors Eric Turner (170 pounds, 183 pounds), David Plechaty (195 pounds, 220 pounds) and Cristian Puente (220 pounds, heavyweight). The wrestlers wrestled at different weight classes in order to match up with the Crusaders' and Huskies' personnel.

The Warriors return to practice today in preparation for the 15th Annual Maria Carrillo Puma Classic wrestling tournament, hosted by Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa on Saturday.

The one-day tournament features 30 teams from across Northern California for a virtual preview of the California Interscholastic Federation North Coast Section Championships.
