Del Norte baseball still looking for head coach

Warriors may play few or no nonleague contests

With the spring season fast approaching at Del Norte High School, the Warriors' baseball team is without a head coach.

Del Norte athletic director Bob Hadfield confirmed to the Triplicate that the position is still open.

Jared Wells resigned as Warriors head coach following the 2012 season. Hadfield originally hired Sean Harper to the position earlier this month, but Harper resigned days later due to unspecified circumstances. (Harper declined comment to the Triplicate.)

Spring sports are allowed to begin practicing on Feb. 4, with nonleague play expected to begin in late February for other Del Norte sports - softball, boys tennis, boys golf and boys and girls track and field.

Hadfield said that the Warriors baseball program may play a limited number of nonleague contests, or none at all, if the coaching situation is unsettled entering spring practice. Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5 League play begins April 13.

It is unclear if Del Norte will be able to field a junior varsity baseball team for the 2013 season. The Warriors were unable to do so in 2012.

The Del Norte baseball team finished 0-13 last season (0-12 HDN Big 5), but graduated only two players from its 14-man roster.
