McKinleyville High enjoyed a banner day on the diamonds at the expense of the Del Norte High baseball and softball teams on Wednesday night.

The Panthers baseball team shut out the Warriors, 7-0, to give Del Norte its 10th loss in its last 12 games. The Warriors' Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5 League record slipped to 1-8 (5-13 overall).

Freshman Austin Healy led Del Norte at the plate, going 2 for 3. Chris Bray, Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Calderon each went 1 for 3.

In softball, McKinleyville scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open a tie game and eventually win, 7-2, over Del Norte.

Sophomore Colleen Markussen went 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Warriors (10-11-1 overall, 5-4 HDN Big 5), absorbing the loss in a complete-game pitching effort. Senior Sami Morrow went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

The Warriors remain in third place among the HDN Big 5, trailing league leader Eureka High and second-place Fortuna High.

The softball team hosts the Loggers in a doubleheader on Friday. The first game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.,

with the second game to follow at 5 p.m.

The baseball team plays a home doubleheader against the Loggers on Saturday, with games at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
