Del Norte's girls tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to North Coast Prep in a home match Tuesday.

"Overall, I was pleased with the girls' play," said coach Jane Rumiano. "We definitely need to work on footwork and ball placement if we expect to beat our opponents."

The coach praised the effort of No. 2 singles player Debbie Yang, even though it was in a losing cause.

The result, Rumiano said, "doesn't reflect the effort she put into her match. It could have gone either way, but her opponent was able to put the ball away on the big points."

The coach credited No. 3 singles player Alexis Wright's victory to "sheer determination to win, paired with an ability to place the ball so that her opponent couldn't return it."

Here are complete results:

In singles play, Del Norte's No. 1 player, Jordan Babich, lost to Elena O'Shea, 2-6, 1-6, while No. 2 Debbie Yang lost to Carolyn Mitchell-Rice, 4-6, 1-6.

Wright, the No. 3 Warrior, defeated Tehva Kastell-Riggan, 6-4, 6-0, while No. 4 Raili Makela lost to Annaliese Parkhurst, 4-6, 1-6.

No. 5 Panhia Yang beat Anna Farquhar, 9-7, and No. 6 Marine Henry lost to Claire McCoy, 3-8.

In doubles play, No. 1 team Babich/Wright lost to O'Shea/Mitchell-Rice, 0-8, while No. 2 team Yang/Yang defeated Riggan/McCoy, 8-4. No. 3 team Makela/Henry lost to Rogers/Murphy, 4-8.

In exhibition play, a Del Norte doubles team of Olivia Jeffcoat and Anissa Vang lost 1-8. In a singles exhibition, Jeffcoat lost to Tessa Palmer, 1-8.

Del Norte's next match is Saturday at Fortuna.
