The Del Norte High girls tennis team dropped a home match to McKinleyville 8-1 on Tuesday.

"The girls played strategically good tennis, but they made too many unforced errors on the big points and lost matches because of that," said Del Norte tennis coach Jane Rumiano.

"They all played better in the doubles matches, and each player played more aggressively, especially at the net, where many points were won by well-placed, well-paced volleys," Rumiano said.

Del Norte's No. 1 singles player, Jordan Babich, lost to Corina Gloor, 3-6, 6-7 (4). No. 2 Debbie Yang was beaten by Wendy Witte, 5-7, 4-6.

No. 3 Alexis Wright lost to Stormy Rhain Jake, 0-6, 3-6, while No. 4 Raili Makela was defeated by Abby Morgan, 2-6, 5-7.

No. 5 Panhia Yang lost to Chesiree Katter, 5-8, while No. 6 Marine Henry was beaten by Marisa Gloor, 3-8

In doubles, Del Norte's No. 1 team of Babich/Wright lost to C. Gloor/Rhain Jake, 6-8. The No. 2 team of Yang/Yang got the only win of the day for the home team, beating Witt/Morgan, 8-6. No. 3 team Makela/Henry lost to Katter/M. Gloor, 3-8.

In exhibition play, Del Norte's Emily Thor and Salina Xiong lost to Cayla Lynch and Natalie Lyell, 3-8.

The Warriors are back in action today at home againstEureka, beginning at 2:30.

The Eureka match was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up so the tennis players could take their SATs on Saturday.
