The Del Norte wrestling team had a strong performance at the first day of the Grants Pass Tournament.

The Warriors took 13 wrestlers to the 40-school tournament and six of them advanced on to the second day.

"We have more people in the second day than last year, so I am happy with that," said Del Norte head coach Aaron Schaad. "We are continuing to improve and use the techniques that we are working on in practice. We will see how we do tomorrow."

Willie Gensaw went 2-1 on the first day in the 106-pound varsity bracket, both Nicole Mattz and Marcus Henderson finished 1-1 in the 113-pound varsity bracket and Hawk Mattz went 2-1 in the 170-pound varsity bracket. All four wrestlers advance to day two.

Del Norte also had two wrestlers reach the second day of the tournament in the JV brackets. Justin Schrader advanced in the 126-pound bracket and Colson Turner survived the first day at 132 pounds.
