The Del Norte girls basketball team got off to a slow start at the Brookings-Harbor Tournament on Friday. The Warriors lost 37-20 to Phoenix (Ore.) in what was by far their lowest-scoring game of the season.

Previously, Del Norte's low score for the season was 38 in a 38-37 win over Reedsport but on Friday, the Warriors just couldn't find the hoop.

"I am trying to emphasize defense right now, but we have got to score more than 20," said head coach Jeff Cook. "We are averaging over 40 points a game, we just couldn't hit shots. We had plenty of shots, they just didn't go in."

In addition to poor shooting, the Warrior also battled turnover troubles throughout the night, finishing with 29.

"Anytime we made a run, we would turn the ball over," Cook said, noting that it felt more like the team had 39 turnovers in the game. "They just outplayed us and out-hustled us."

The loss drops the Warriors to 5-4 overall this season. It was also the first time Del Norte has lost back-to-back games this season.

"I'm glad that it happened during the preseason," Cook said, referring to non-league games. "Hopefully we can see how much we need to improve before the league. We will see how we respond tomorrow."

Del Norte will play Cascade Christian at 1 p.m.w today in the consolation final at Brookings-Harbor High School.
