The Del Norte girls basketball team rolled to a 48-26 victory over Hoopa in a non-league matchup on Tuesday.

The Warriors opened the game with a 22-0 run in the first quarter and Del Norte was never again threatened.

"Everything was working," said Del Norte head coach Jeff Cook. "They were playing us in zone. We got the inside working and we actually hit a couple jump shots."

The Del Norte offense was spread around in the game, as the Warriors were able to get every player on the roster into the game.

"Everybody played and the reserves actually got a lot of playing time," Cook said.

Junior forward Jordan Babich lead the team with 13 points and was the only Warrior to reach double digits.

Babich was just one of nine Warriors to find the basket against Hoopa however. Sophomore guard Regin Loftin and junior guard Kayla Costello both chipped in 7 points and senior guard Panhia Yang scored six for Del Norte.

The win improves the Warriors overall record to 9-7 overall this season and ends a three-game losing streak for the team.

"This should help boost their confidence," Cook said. "It isn't a league game, so we don't put too much importance on it, but a win is a win."

Del Norte is still in search of its first league victory, however, starting 0-3 in the Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5. After a 15-point loss to Arcata, the Warriors have been in a pair of tight games, losing to McKinleyville and Eureka by a combined four points.

"We are right there," Cook said. "We are just a couple shots away from being 2-1 instead of 0-3.

The Warriors will have another chance at a league victory tomorrow when they travel to Fortuna High School.

The Huskies enter Wednesday's matchup with a 6-8 overall record and are 1-1 in the league before a game against Eureka Wednesday.

"They play zone and they have a couple good shooters," Cook said.
