The Del Norte girls basketball team struggled to score the ball once again in the early going in Eureka against St. Bernard's on Tuesday.
Although the Warriors recovered and were able to close the gap in the second half, the Crusaders' lead was just too much as they went on to a 65-45 victory.
Del Norte was only able to score 14 points in the first half - eight in the first quarter and second in the second. By the end of the second quarter, the Warriors trailed 38-14.
The Warriors were able to shake off their shooting woes in the second half, however. Del Norte scored 31 points in the second half, including 21 points in the second quarter.
Senior center Kaitlyn Clemann led the team with 12 points. Jordan Babich and Panhia Yang chipped in 7 and 6 points respectively.
Since it was a non-league game, Del Norte head coach Jeff Cook made sure to get all of the team's players into the game and 10 of them came way with at least two points in the contest.
The Warriors struggled from long range hitting 3-of-15 three-point attempts. Del Norte also gave up a lot of points at the free-throw line, missing 19 of its 27 free throws. In contrast, St. Bernard's made 22-of-30 from the charity stripe.
The loss drops Del Norte to 9-12 overall and 0-7 in the Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5.
The Warriors will wrap up their season at home tonight against Fortuna. Fortuna sits at 5-2 in the HDN and needs to win the game and get some help from Arcata in order to capture a share of the regular season title.
