Redwood Elementary sent 21 students, grades sixth to eighth, to the Brookings Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.

Redwood sent 12 boys to the meet. The eighth-grade boys scored nine team points and finished tenth overall. The girls scored 9.5 points and finished ninth in the team standings.

The boys sixth and seventh grade team scored 42 team points to finish fourth, less than a point ahead of Reedsport.

Seventh grader Blake Costa did most of the scoring for Redwood's sixth and seventh graders. Costa won the sixth and seventh grade 100 meter dash with a time of 13.45, which was the fastest time of anyone of any age at the meet. Costa also finished first in the 200 meter hurdles in a time of 34.21.

Costa also finished second in the 200 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles.

Eighth grader Ashley Dixon was the girls' top placer, finishing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in 23.72 seconds. Fellow eighth grader Paulina Gonzalez finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-foot-2.

The Redwood track and field team will be back in action today at the Del Norte Middle School Meet.
