The Men's and Women's League Basketball season came to a close on Wednesday at Del Norte High School. The men's upper division crowned a familiar champion while the women crowned their first-ever champion in the leagues' first year.

Bobs Boys have been terrorizing the Recreation Departments Men's League Basketball Upper division for half a decade.

On Wednesday, Bobs Boys won their fifth-straight tournament championship with a 79-63 victory over Burger King in the finals.

Bobs Boys went undefeated throughout the season a year ago and lost just one game during the season this year.

It was the first year that the Rec Department held a women's league, and they were able to get four teams this year.

"I think it went well," said assistant coordinator Justin Yslas. "Hopefully we can get some more teams for next year. We put it together pretty quickly this year, so a lot of people didn't even know that it was going on."

In the championship game, Tim Haban Construction was able to mount a comeback in the second half against The Hot Mess and come away with a 41-35 victory and become the first-ever women's champions.

In the men's lower division The Born Sinners squeaked by Requa Inn 66-63.

There were a total of 19 teams in all of the divisions together this year with about 200 total players, Yslas estimated.

League play began in the middle of March and took place at the high school every week with the exception of a couple games at Crescent Elk Middle School.
