This past week was probably the first time this June where the ocean was calm enough for a full week of fishing, but that doesn't mean that king salmon were always easy to find out of the ports of Crescent City and Brookings.

King salmon fishing out of Eureka was reportedly off the charts this week, but further up the coast, the salmon bite was more spotty. Thankfully, the rockfish and lingcod bite is always prime on our rocky coastline.

Crescent City ocean

Ocean anglers starting their day in Crescent City Harbor were landing a few salmon this week, with some of the best fishing in about 180 feet of water near the "Sisters" rocks south of Crescent City.

Pacific West Coast Ocean Fishing Guide Service is the primary charter boat going out for salmon from Crescent City right now, but Gotcha Hooked Fish Trips plans to also offer salmon trips within a few weeks.

The rockfish and lingcod bite out of Crescent City is holding strong as usual, and Tally Ho II Sportfishing continues to be the primary charter for groundfish trips.

The largest gilled-and-gutted salmon weighed in for the rod-and-reel contest at Englund Marine Fish Supply so far was 24.5 pounds. The largest gilled-and-gutted lingcod so far was 28.75 pounds.

Clam tides

Razor clam hunters were back out in full force this weekend with a series of minus tides that will continue through Tuesday.

Brookings ocean fishing

A few boats came back to the Port of Brookings-Harbor on Friday with limits of salmon, according to folks at the Chetco Outdoor Store, but the salmon bite has been mostly underwhelming.

The salmon were found seven miles out of port on the 240-degree line.

Rockfish bite out of Brookings has been "pretty good," while lingcod has continued to be "really good," according to Roland Robertson of Chetco Outdoor Store.

Eureka ocean fishing

"The salmon fishing could not get much better than it is right now," according to online reports from Reel Steel Sportfishing, which along with most of the other Eureka charter boats, has been getting easy salmon limits well before noon.
