This year six former Warriors will be inducted into the Warriors Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dee Sullivan is a former teacher and coach who did so much for Del Norte students, especially the girls. She gave girls the chance to develop and demonstrate their athletic skills long before interscholastic sports for girls started. As a student at Eureka she was a world class athlete and qualified for the 1928 Olympics. She taught at Del Norte from 1956 until retirement in 1973.

Kim Kellenburg is a 1965 graduate who was an outstanding three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. Basketball was his specialty. After graduation he went on to an outstanding college basketball career. After college he taught, coached and worked as a school administrator until retirement.

Joe Gutierrez is a 1981 graduate who played football and basketball. He was outstanding in both. Playing for Dale Thomas on the basketball court, he set a single-season scoring record and led the team to the section playoffs.

Brandon Bieber is a 1995 graduate who was an outstanding basketball player for Kirk Burrows. He was not only tall but also had excellent athletic talent. He had a great college career after high school and his college talent led him to Australia, where he played professionally for a year.

Devon O'Reilley,a member of the class of 2000, had a great career for the Warriors on the volleyball court, the basketball floor and softball field.

Holly Gutierrrez is a 2001 graduate who played soccer, basketball and softball. If she hadn't been such an excellent soccer player, she could have been a very good volleyball player.

During the next six weeks leading up to the induction ceremony at halftime of the Aug. 30 football game, I will write a more detailed column about each of these Hall of Fame athletes.

Dick Trone writes on his reflections and the history of Del Norte High sports as a former player, coach, athletic director and a lifelong fan.
