The Del Norte Recreation Department hosted the annual Battle at the Border slowpitch softball tournament over the weekend. For the first time ever, the battle included a coed division to let the ladies in on the fun.

The championship game for both the men's and the coed divisions camp right down to the wire on Sunday. The Battle at the Border is a double elimination tournament, and both champions ran the table, finishing the bracket undefeated.

Brooke's Angles won the coed division behind MVP performance from Johnny Franz and Krystal Gutierrez. The Angels came out hot against Royal Flush in the championship game, jumping out to a 10-1 advantage in the top of the second inning. Royal Flush came alive in the middle of the game, however, chipping away at Brooke's Angels lead and pulling ahead 11-10 in the bottom of the fifth.

Brooke's Angels were able to pull it back together, however, and escape with an 18-14 victory.

In the men's division championship, Coulson Farms entered the game with an unblemished record and threatened to turn the title game into a laugher, pulling ahead of Wild River 18-4 by the top of the third inning.

That is when Coulson Farms offense went cold, however, and Wild Rivers came roaring back.

Wild Rivers went on an 18-0run through the next three innings to grab a 22-18 lead heading into the seventh.

Coulson Farms offense re-emerged and they were able to tie the game up, then send it to extra innings after shutting out Wild Rivers in the bottom of the inning.

In the eighth inning, Coulson Farms pushed across a run and held Wild Rivers scoreless again to take home the championship.

Travis Wright earned MVP honors in the men's division.

Both championship winning teams recieved windbreakers and a banner as a prize.
