As a part of the Live! From Downtown First Friday event 5 p.m-7:30 p.m. Friday, The Gallery of Arts & Culture at 175 H St. will host a reception with featured artists. Michael Jackson will be there to meet visitors and display his wood carvings of “A Gorgeous Turtle” and “A Dungeness Crab.” David La Briere will also be present to discuss his color photography on aluminum and the classic cars featured. Juried photo show and reception

Arts for Veterans: drums, guitar, and drawing
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness invites veterans and their families to register for a new 12-week course of guitar workshops with Dale Morgan, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fireside Room of the VFW Hall. A six-week drawing class taught by Sara Dee Broderick will also be starting up from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Del Norte Senior Center at 1765 Northcrest Dr. All workshops are free. DNACA’s Arts for Veterans program is funded in part through Veterans Initiative in the Arts, a program of the California Arts Council, a state agency. Suburban Showgirl comedy
The Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness premieres its 35th Performance Series at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Crescent Elk Auditorium at 994 G St. with Suburban Showgirl, an all ages musical comedy infused with dance and emotion. Tickets are $18 general, $15 senior (65 and older) or transitional-aged youth (18-25), and $12 students.
Season tickets, transferable and replaceable if lost, are also available for discounted admission to all five performances in the series. Both are available at Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St., Crescent City, at Wright’s Custom Framing at 810 Chetco Ave., Brookings, and at the door. Crescent Harbor Gallery
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Gallery will be showcasing their annual juried art competition for the month of October. October’s demo will be led by Pete Chasar with graphics-inspired painting in acrylics at noon Oct. 26 and will be preceded by a finger food potluck. Bring a dish to share and some friends. Their fall luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 21 for $10 per person. Every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. is Paint and Play day for children. Every Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. are paint-ins, offering a space and good company for artists and crafters. Music in the Redwoods
Music in the Redwoods 2017-18 concert season tickets are still available for discounted admission to the remaining three performances: Neave Trio, classical piano on Nov. 17; Two on Tap, classic song and dance on Jan. 6; and Duo Baldo, classical and comical piano and violin on April 22. Art in Public Places
DNACA’s Art in Public Places show in the Del Norte County Courthouse is titled “Stories We Could Tell: Drawings, Paintings and Book Illustrations,” a multimedia collection by Marcia Voelker. California Redwoods Art Association
