The Minetti String Quartet from Austria will perform on live Sunday as part of the Brookings Harbor Friends of Music 33rd season of bringing classical music concerts to the community.

This concert originally scheduled for March 18 was changed to accommodate the artists travel schedule.

Founded in 2003, the Minetti Quartet has won prizes at numerous competitions including first prize at the international Rimbotti String Quartet competition in Florence, the Haydn Prize at the International Haydn Competition in Vienna, the top award at the International Schubert Competition in Graz and the Grosses Gradus ad Parnassum Prize.

The quartet’s name is a reference to a play by the dramatist Thomas Bernhard, who lived for many years in Ohlsdorf, birthplace of the two violinists. Quartet members are Maria Ehmer, violin; Anna Knopp, violin; Milan Milojicic, viola; and Leonhard Roczek, cello.

“The Minetti Quartet is a musical sensation from Austria,” wrote Der Tagesspiegel following the Minetti Quartet’s début in the Berlin Philharmonie in 2009. The Minetti Quartet’s début CD appeared in 2009 with hänssler CLASSIC featuring works by Joseph Haydn. This was followed in 2012 by another CD, again with hänssler CLASSIC, this time featuring the early quartets of Mendelssohn; both CDs were highly praised by the critics.

Its third album came out in 2013 on the Avi Music label and consisted of clarinet quintets with Matthias Schorn. Since 2009 they have themselves taught regularly at the East Tyrol string courses. They have also been active as performers and tutors at the “Sonoro” chamber music festivals in Cuernavaca (Mexico), Kuhmo and Madrid.

The live concert program will include Joseph Haydn: String Quartet E flat major, op 33 no 2 “The Joke” Hob.III:38, Dmitri Shostakovich: String quartet Nr.7 op 108, and Franz Schubert: String Quartet No.15 G-Major D887.
