Motorists should plan on slippery conditions during the morning commute today as snow is expected on U.S. 199 from Hiouchi to Collier Tunnel, and on U.S. 101 at higher elevations between Crescent City and Last Chance Grade, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that will be in effect from 4 a.m. through 4 p.m. today. Meteorologists expect total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and say other rural roadways, in addition to the two major highways, will also be affected.

Motorists should be prepared for snow covered roads, limited visibility and use caution while driving. They should also be alert for rockslides in mountainous terrain, according to the advisory.

Meteorologists advise motorists to slow down and allow extra time.
