Letters: Challenge Day was success thanks to many partners

Last month, Del Norte County experienced another memorable Challenge Day ("Accepting the challenge," Sept. 15) and I would like to thank all of the people who contributed to the event. First of all, the Board of Supervisors, through the Indian Gaming funds provided the majority of the facilitator fees and we thank them from the bottom or our hearts. Without this type of support Challenge Day would not have happened.

Secondly, we had a handful of local businesses and community organizations that assisted with funds. Thank you Hambro Forest Products for supporting Challenge Day for three years consecutively, Mimi Stevens at Bayside Realty for two years, and Jamie O'Brien at Northcoast Mortgage for this year. Thankfully, Soroptomists donated drinking water for the event and sent volunteers to participate as adult facilitators. And thank you Randy Hadfield at Del Norte County Fairgrounds for donating the facility, chairs and tables.

In addition, a huge thank you to Del Norte County Mental Health, Health and Social Services, Alcohol and Other Drug Programs, Rural Human Services, First Five, and Del Norte County Unified School District for allowing their employees to act as adult facilitators for an entire work day.

Finally, for all the adults and youth facilitators that helped make this a special three-day event for everyone involved. To make this event happen it took a supportive community of businesses, agencies, and individuals. Thank you for giving, listening, caring, and speaking out. Del Norte County...you rock!
