Border Coast Bike Tour on September 29

Sign-ups are now being accepted for the Jefferson Sate Border Coast Bike Tour on Sept. 29. The 100-mile ride will begin at 8 a.m. and will take riders along Pebble Beach and South Beach and up to the Crescent Beach Overlook. The ride will continue through Elk Valley Road, Fort Dick and Smith River and will pass into Brookings. On the way back, the ride will include a route to the Hiouchi Bridge and will come back towards Crescent City through the redwoods. The event will also feature a 50-mile ride that will have most of the same scenery, except for the legs up into Oregon and out to the Hiouchi Bridge. It begins at 10 a.m. The event will benefit the Del Norte County Search and Rescue Team and other local non-profit groups. There will also be a 25-mile ride at 10 a.m. and a 10-mile ride at 11 a.m. There will be rest stops for water and other items at six locations. All participants will get a free lunch provided by The Boy Scouts. Amateur radio clubs will keep track of riders and make sure that no one gets lost or broken down. Rides cost $25 for 100 miles; $20 for 50 miles and $15 for the 25 and 10-mile riders. The event will start and finish at at the Search and Rescue Station on Cooper Street, across the street south from Home Depot. To register, go to jsbiketour.com.
