Just south of the Oregon border near Smith River, the Ship Ashore Museum pays tribute to ocean vessels with a permanently aground yacht. The Ship Ashore museum and gift shop offers an array of ocean-related goodies – from an exhibit of model ships to preserved sea creatures. The ship-in-a-bottle on display in the wheel house and the preserved California gray whale eye located in the cargo bay are highlights. Pirate figurines under the bow of the ship are frightful. The Ship Ashore also houses an impressive gift shop, with pirate memorabilia, jewelry, redwood products, clothing and several other unique gifts. Admission is free and it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
