Summer volunteer opportunities abound

As the summer season brings nice weather and pleasant temperatures, there are many more volunteer opportunities happening outdoors. The gardens at the harbor always need tending, and for those able to travel, there's an ongoing struggle to eradicate invasive exotic plants from many park areas. But there are also more indoor jobs as visitors pour into our area. Gift shops that support non-profit agencies are all in desperate need of help. Most ask that volunteers serve a three or four-hour shift weekly, and they also give volunteers discounts on purchases. To volunteer at the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center gift shop, contact Vicki Farr at 465-6265. To volunteer at the Jedediah Smith or Prairie Creek State Park gift shops, contact Jeff Russell at 465-2144 or 465-7354. For other volunteer opportunities, contact Inez Castor at the Volunteer Center of the Redwoods at 464-7876 ext. 136.
