Jeff Bomke of Gasquet, Maintenance Chief of North Coast Redwoods District, Eureka, is one of 27 state parks employees to be a recipient of the 2006 California State Parks Director's Recognition Awards announced recently.

Bomke has worked since 1991 to create "a lasting partnership" between Redwood National and State Parks and the Tolowa Tribe, according to a press release from the state Department of Parks and Recreation.

His work involves meetings with both national and state park scientists to determine alternative water sources to protect Mill Creek campground resources, and meets regularly with the Tolowa Tribe to find solutions to protect the area and maintain a campground at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.
