Del Norte High baseball player Kevin Walsworth will be continuing his playing career at Butte College in Oroville this fall.

In his senior season, Walsworth went 4-2 from the mound and had a .474 batting average.

Walsworth said his goal is to hopefully to do well at the two-year school and continue on to play at a four-year college, hopefully in the division one level.

"It seemed to me like the best place to go," he said, adding he liked the people he met and the coaching staff led by head coach Anthony Serro, who he has been in contact with since last fall.

Walsworth also has family members in the area.

Walsworth, who has played baseball since he was five, said for years he has dreamed of being able to play baseball on the college level and said he's ecstatic to be given the opportunity. "I just love baseball," he said.

Ferro has invited Walsworth to play on the Chico Colts semi-professional team this summer. The Colts will face the Humboldt Crabs squad in Arcata on June 27. Walsworth said he's pleased he will be able to play near Del Norte so friends and family can watch him.

The Butte College Roadruners ha a nice season in 2006, finishing with a 28-16 record.

The squad won the conference for the first time in nine years.
