Police crack down on seat belt enforcement

Starting next week, the will step up its Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign.

From May 14 to June 3 the police department will be raising awareness through advertising and heavy enforcement of seat belt laws.

According to a press release from the police department, adults not wearing seat belts can be fined between $80 and $91. However, when children under 6-years-old are found unbuckled in a vehicle, drivers can receive a fine of $330 to $401 for the first offense and $795 to $971 for the second.

Click It or Ticket is an annual state-wide event that is funded through a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
