Oscar Taylor Gensaw, Sr., a member of the Yurok Tribe of Klamath, died May 3, 2007, at his home in Klamath at the age of 71.

He was born June 9, 1935, in Requa.

He was a logger for 36 years, a fish guide for tourists in the early years on the Klamath River, and a boxing coach for his sons and other boys for 16 years.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Josephine Gensaw; his brothers, William (Willie) Gensaw Sr., Carrol Gensaw and Sam Gensaw Sr.; his sisters, Marcelene, Vickie, Romana and Mary; his daughter, Peggy Sue Gensaw of Eureka; sons Joseph (Joyce) Gensaw, Sr. and Curtis (Patricia) Gensaw, both of Klamath; his grandchildren, Oscar (Rhiennon) Gensaw III, James (Angela) Gensaw, Janell (Bobby Jr.) Montgomery, Joseph (Angie) Gensaw Jr., Jolene Gensaw, Jasmine Kay-Berry, Maggie (Nathan) White, Camelia Gensaw Kay, Justin Gensaw, Joshua Gensaw, William Ulmer Gensaw, Charles Ulmer Gensaw, Teresita Ulmer Gensaw, Rudy Ulmer, Rebekka Ulmer and Angelica Ulmer; and his great-grandchildren, Orion, Phoenix, Draco, Aeris, Thayallen, James Jr., William, Mathew, Andrew, Joseph III and Lita.

Oscar was preceded in death by his father and mother,William (Bill) Sr. and Bell Gensaw; his sisters, Florene and Margaret, and his brothers, Ronnie Sr. and Raymond Sr.

Viewing will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Wier's Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wier's Mortuary Chapel. After the services, the family will take Oscar to the family cemetery on Gensaw Hill in Requa. Following the graveside services, there will be gathering at his son Joseph's house in Requa.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
