ARCATA – Women from different backgrounds and communities will meet Sunday at A Call To Action in Arcata to discuss such issues as jobs, families, health care, violence, the environment and peace.

Sponsored by the Humboldt State University Multicultural Center, Associated Students and the Women's International League of Peace and Freedom, the event will take place at the Goodwin Forum at HSU from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A 9 a.m., women's environmental caucus meeting will precede the event to start planning the Fall Environmental Forum.

The day's speakers include Native American activist Jene McCovey, as well as Marilyn Fowler of the Women's Intercultural Network, Lauren Oliver of the Working Circles group and Paige Alisen of the Emma Center.

The gathering aims to continue efforts from previous United Nations, national and local women's conferences seeking ways to network, share skills, focus attention on specific common problems and give women a say in local and global public policy.

Lunch and childcare will be provided. Event organizers request a $10 registration fee to cover costs, but will not require it.

For register, call Jene McCovey at 822-4233 or Lauren Oliver at 923-0152, or visit www.win-cawa.org/humboldt/index.html
