Advance crews on Wednesday will begin erecting the giant tent that will become Crescent City's Cultural Pavilion during the upcoming Tall-Masted Ships Celebration.

Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will enter Crescent City Harbor at 2 p.m. May 1 to begin a six-day celebration of maritime history and Del Norte County's 150th anniversary.

Along with the ships, a Harbor Fair will feature arts, crafts and food vendors, and the Cultural Pavilion will showcase displays by local ethnic and cultural organizations. The Pavilion's Cultural State will feature free musical and cultural performances. Setting up the tent is part of a weeks-long frenzy to prepare the harbor for the event.

"The harbor probably hasn't seen this much activity since the 1964 tsunami," said Director of Rural Human Services Larry Lakes.
