Local Earth Day events to be held

Several events focusing on environmental conservation and restoration will take place to celebrate Earth Day this weekend:

•George Catlin will discuss global warming and other crises and their links to competition at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Fireplace Room of Methodist Church at 644 H St.

•The Yurok Tribe will host a Klamath River clean-up on Saturday, along with morning snacks and a salmon barbecue lunch. Volunteers will meet at at 8 a.m in the Tribal Office at 1027 Klamath Blvd. Participants must register by calling 482-1350, extension 314.

•The Earth Arts Festival will run 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Cultural Center on Front Street. The event by the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority hosts locally-made products.

The festival also will feature "An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary from former Vice President Al Gore, at 2 p.m.
