Meetings held to gauge rockfish population

Public meetings this week will present a proposed stock assessment model to gauge the black rockfish populations off the California and Oregon coast.

A meeting on Wednesday will start at 7 p.m. in the Best Western Brookings Inn at 1143 Chetco Ave., or U.S. Hwy. 101, in Brookings.

A meeting on Thursday will start at 7 p.m. in the conference room of Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District at 601 Startare Drive in Eureka.

Oregon State University researcher David Sampson will review black rockfish stock assessments and the data sources proposed for a new model structure.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council's Stock Assessment Review Panel that sets the model structure for black rockfish stock assessment will meet in Portland, Ore., the week of May 21. The public meeting will take place at the Pacific States Marine Fishery Commission at 205 SE Spokane St., Suite 100.
