Winners of Spring Poetry contest

Three local youth were awarded first place in the Spring Poetry Contest Friday.

Cheryl Covington won the grade school division, Cerina D. Aragones the middle school division and Lindsay Scholes the high school division in the contest sponsored by the Business Improvement District and The Daily Triplicate. All three were presented their awards Friday during a special ceremony outside the downtown library.

Each of the winners received a certificate, got to meet Poet Laureate Al Young and read their poem to the about 150 local residents in attendance. They wee selected from more than 50 entries.

The contest's theme was "Living in Del Norte County."
