Billy Jack Lewis, 19, of Hoquiam, Wash., died April 10, 2007, on the Klamath River as the result of an eel fishing accident.

He was born April 4, 1988, in Arcata to Gerald Alan and Tamara Elaine (Husberg) Lewis. He was raised in Smith River and attended Smith River Elementary School, Del Norte High School and Castle Rock Charter School.

Lewis moved to Washington in 2006 with his fiance. He had been working on the fishing docks near Hoquiam.

He loved to fish, and had commercially fished with his father and brothers throughout his life. He enjoyed being on the Klamath River, hunting, eeling, camping and spending time with his dad, brothers and most recently, with his son, Billy Jack Jr., his pride and joy.

He is survived by his fiance, Natasha Lopez of Hoquiam, Wash.; son, Billy Jack Lewis, Jr.; parents, Gerald Alan and Tamara Elaine Lewis; brothers Joshua, Jerime and Gerald Lewis, Jr.; sister Jenni Lewis, all of Smith River; grandmother Myrtle Husberg of Smith River; grandfather Darrell Lewis of Trinidad; aunt Terile Keevil of Crescent City; uncle Robert Husberg, Jr. of Brookings; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Valarie Clark; grandfather, Robert Husberg, Sr.; great-grandfather, Jack "Swede" Husberg; great-grandmother, Etta Richards; great-grandfather, Clyde Richards; and aunt, Dawna Lewis Still.

Friends and family are invited to a wake at the Shaker Church, 110 Indian Court (west of the United Indian Health Services Clinic) beginning at 7p.m. Monday, April 16, until service time. Funeral services will follow at the Shaker Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Howonquet Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Care of Crescent City.
